Law Students
We look to hire law students of diverse backgrounds who have outstanding academic credentials and writing skills.
Beyond those threshold criteria, we seek lawyers who love the rigor and dignity of the law, who are committed to providing excellent client service, and who welcome the discipline imposed by practicing in accordance with the highest standards of professionalism and ethical conduct. We seek attorneys who have pride in their work, whether it be carefully resolving a complex tax problem, creatively structuring a corporate transaction, or skillfully negotiating a real estate deal. We seek advocates who enjoy preparing persuasive and well-crafted briefs, presenting compelling oral arguments, and conducting an effective cross-examination in the courtroom. We seek counselors who work to stay current on the law, who take the time to learn our clients’ business operations and practices, and who act promptly to respond to client inquiries. Finally, we seek colleagues who treat each other with courtesy and respect, who encourage and help each other, and who want to personally contribute to a firm culture that is solidly grounded in teamwork, mutual support, and a commitment to excellence.
Each fall, we devote considerable effort to selecting second-year law students (and a small number of first-year students) for our summer program. Our lawyers interview law students at more than 30 national law school campuses and job fairs, and we also consider applications from exceptional students attending other schools. Historically, our summer program has been our principal hiring tool. Because of the high quality of our summer associates, many of them have received offers for permanent positions and become strong additions to our firm after they graduate from law school.
We also welcome direct applications for regular associate positions from outstanding third-year law students and judicial clerks.
